24 hours in Naples, Italy

Instead of flying directly over Italy on our way to Croatia, we discovered that it was actually cheaper to take a stopover. Not only does this allow us to spend the money saved on mouth-watering pizza and delectable desserts, but it also lets us experience a slice of Italy's incredible culture. It's a win-win situation: less money for the airlines and more time to explore one of the most culturally rich countries in the world.

So start your adventure as soon as you land at Naples Airport. From there, it's just a 10-minute walk to the local bus stop named ‘Maddalena - Aeroporto Civile.’ You can purchase a bus ticket for €1.30 either online via the ANM Go app or at any newsagent or convenience store. Hop on bus 002 to Centro Storico or bus 182 to nearby stops.

A quicker and easier option is the Airport transfer bus, called ‘Alibus’. It's green, and you can find it by following the signs to the bus station from the airport. This service costs €5 and has no stops along the way. As a fan of traveling locally and saving money, I only opted to use Alibus on my return trip to the airport when I couldn't locate the public bus in a hurry. It's a reliable backup plan!

Morning: Explore the Centro Storico

Check into the charming Naples Pizza Hostel, located in an antique building in the heart of a vibrant neighbourhood. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the streets, soaking in the authentic Italian atmosphere with the coffee and pizza aromas filling your body.

Midday: Historical Sights and Culinary Delights

Take advantage of the hostel's discount at a local pizzeria and savor some of the best pizza in town. After lunch, explore the historical center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its narrow streets, stunning churches, and bustling markets. Don't miss the famous Spaccanapoli street, which cuts through the historic heart of Naples.

Afternoon: Culture and Shopping

Visit the Naples National Archaeological Museum to marvel at artifacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum. For some shopping, head to Via Toledo, a lively shopping street filled with local boutiques and international brands.

Evening: Sunset and Dinner

As the day winds down, make your way to the waterfront area of Lungomare for a beautiful sunset view over the Bay of Naples. Choose a seaside restaurant to enjoy a traditional Neapolitan dinner, featuring fresh seafood and local specialties.

Night: Vibrant Nightlife

End your day with a taste of Naples' vibrant nightlife. Head to Piazza Bellini, a popular square surrounded by bars and cafes, where you can enjoy a drink and experience the lively local scene.

With this guide, you’ll get a taste of Naples' rich history, delicious cuisine, and vibrant culture, all in just 24 hours. Enjoy your stay!
